ALYSSA: Today, we’ll continue our discussion of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Time of Contempt Chapter 6, in which Ciri journeys alone through the Korath Desert after teleporting across the Continent through the Tower of the Gull. Here’s a quick synopsis of the chapter from future Alyssa:
ALYSSA (VOICEOVER): In Chapter 5, Ciri wakes alone in a desert, having ran into the Tower of the Gull in an attempt to escape Vilgefortz, Cahir, and the Scoia’tael on the Isle of Thanedd. She treks across the desert searching for food, water, and shelter aided by some basic magic for light and warmth. After days of thin survival, she accepts her death… only to be found by a real unicorn foal.
‘Little Horse’ and Ciri keep each other company and help the other forage and survive. They encounter a giant sand beast, which gravely injures Little Horse with its venom. In a fit of desperation, Ciri channels fire magic to heal the unicorn. It works, but the fire consumes her and shows her a vision of the Continent ravaged and her loved ones dead. Horrified, she renounces her magic and the release of power brings rain to the Korath Desert.
Little Horse, known by its species as Ihuarraquax, is found and disappears, leaving Ciri empty and alone again, only to be found by Nilfgaardian trappers.
